Hawkesbury Kayak & BBQ

This is a great way to see a section of the Hawkesbury River and undertake a return journey of about 14km with the benefit of the tide. We will travel in double sea kayaks and students will learn basic paddle strokes and rudder operation to steer their craft. Our journey will include regular stops on sandy beaches and there will be some free time to explore, swim or just chill out under the waterfall at Refuge bay where a BBQ lunch will be provided. Your guides have done this trip numerous times and will assist you in storing personal in the kayak using our dry bags, and ensuring you feel safe and comfortable.

You will need:

  • Swimmers, casual comfortable clothing & towel
  • Hat (preferably with a brim) or cap
  • Windproof/waterproof jacket
  • Enclosed footwear that may get wet
  • Small daypack to transport own gear
  • Sunscreen/sunglasses
  • 1 litre of fluid to stay hydrated
  • Snacks
  • Personal medication that may be needed (eg asthma puffer)

Please note:

  • Participants to meet at the boat ramp at Parsley Bay, Brooklyn with all gear to maximise activity time by 8.15am. The security of valuable such as keys, wallets and cameras and any personal gear is the responsibility of the client.

WEA Hunter offers a wide variety of Lifestyle & Leisure courses at various locations throughout Newcastle and the Hunter Region.
Course enrolment must be accompanied by a fee; we are unable to hold places for people or accept deposits on Lifestyle courses. Once enrolment is completed students will receive a course confirmation either in writing or by email. This course confirmation constitutes a receipt.

Please check your confirmation letter to ensure you have the correct time, date and location of your course as well as any necessary requirements. There is a room directory located at each venue directing you to your classroom. Vending machines are located at both Laman & King street venues and parking fees will apply.

Please choose carefully as WEA Hunter does not issue refunds of fees paid except in circumstances where WEA Hunter cancels a course – in which case students are entitled to receive a full refund. Alternatively if a course cancels WEA Hunter will transfer the student into another course with no administration charge.
