A general overview of the Elder Law framework in Australia, given our ageing population.

This course will cover:

  • Current demographics, policy, legislation regulating Elder Law
  • Financial abuse of the elderly – contracts & unconscionable conduct, & other areas of abuse and neglect
  • Liability – negligence, assault eg, privacy & confidentiality issues
  • Discrimination (age, disability)
  • Grandparent’s rights
  • Residential care & accommodation, (age care institutions & retirement villages)
  • Financial issues, capacity – guardianship, powers of attorney, making a will, dying without a will & challenging wills.
