Abseiling in the Watagans!

This is a sequenced program that gradually exposes people to the adventure activity of abseiling on natural cliffs up to 45metres high under the supervision of qualified guides. All necessary safety gear is provided and students will be taught how to correctly fit harnesses and helmets and also how to safely connect onto the rope.

  • Good technique for descending safely will be emphasized and students should complete a minimum of 6-8 descents.
  • The afternoon session will occur at Gap Creek falls which students will find both stimulating and challenging.
  • Prior experience is not essential.

  • All students MUST phone Peter after 7am on day of the course to confirm it is going ahead.
  • Participants are to meet at the corner of Mt Faulk Rd and Freemans Drive (North of Cooranbong) at 8.30am.
  • All necessary abseiling equipment will be supplied and your guide will be carrying emergency communication devices and a comprehensive first aid kit.
  • The security of valuables such as car keys, wallets, cameras, and any personal gear is the responsibility of each client.
  • There is no mobile phone coverage at this site

You will need:

  • Suitable clothing that allows freedom of movement
  • Hat (preferably with a brim) or cap
  • Windproof/waterproof jacket
  • Enclosed sturdy footwear
  • Small daypack to transport own gear
  • Sunscreen/sunglasses
  • 1-2 litres of fluid to stay hydrated
  • Cut lunch
  • Snacks
  • Personal medication that may be needed (eg asthma puffer)

WEA Hunter offers a wide variety of Lifestyle & Leisure courses at various locations throughout Newcastle and the Hunter Region.
Course enrolment must be accompanied by a fee; we are unable to hold places for people or accept deposits on Lifestyle courses. Once enrolment is completed students will receive a course confirmation either in writing or by email. This course confirmation constitutes a receipt.

Please check your confirmation letter to ensure you have the correct time, date and location of your course as well as any necessary requirements. There is a room directory located at each venue directing you to your classroom. Vending machines are located at both Laman & King street venues and parking fees will apply.
